Look beyond the label. See what the panel leaves out.

An Australian nutrition panel only has to show energy, protein, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrate, sugars and sodium. Chockers estimates more from the ingredient list and official food composition data — and tells you exactly which numbers are estimates.

Rolled oats, 45 g: nutrition label plus estimated iron, magnesium, zinc, thiamin, folate and calcium
Chockers Plus

“How much iron is in my oats?”

The packet doesn't say. For a 45 g serve of rolled oats, Chockers estimates about 1.6 mg iron, 47 mg magnesium, 1.1 mg zinc, 0.18 mg thiamin, 7.6 µg folate and 18 mg calcium from the ingredient list and food composition data.

Your breakfast counts toward your nutrient review instead of leaving a blank.

“Whose numbers are these?”

Scan a product and its manufacturer panel is kept exactly as published, marked as manufacturer data. Anything Chockers adds sits beside it as an estimate, never on top of it.

The packet in your hand stays the authority, and you can always see where each number came from.

How it works

  • Chockers reads the ingredient statement and looks for plain foods it can match in the Australian and New Zealand food composition data.
  • It only estimates a nutrient when every matching reference agrees. Where they differ — iodine in iodised versus plain salt, for example — the value stays unknown.
  • Estimates are checked against what the label does declare. If they disagree, Chockers adds nothing rather than mixing two stories.
  • Declared values are never overwritten. Estimates are marked with ≈, and “View sources” shows the records behind them.

What it won't do

Plenty of packets can't be estimated. Mixed products with long ingredient lists often don't match cleanly, and Chockers would rather leave a nutrient unknown than guess.
