Athena 1.4: Now on iPhone

Athena running on iPhone: the Evidence Vault and a tagged specialist report

Athena 1.4 is out today, and the headline is simple: Athena is now on iPhone. Not a companion app or a cut-down viewer — the whole app. Evidence Vault, claims, SOP Navigator, Service Story, Strategy and exports, plus client management for advocates, all in your pocket.

What hasn't changed is the promise Athena was built on. Everything still happens on your device. No cloud, no accounts, no sync servers.

The whole of Athena, on iPhone

DVA claim work doesn't only happen at a desk. Records get handed over at the GP, at the RSL, or across a kitchen table. With 1.4 you can scan them with the iPhone camera the moment you get them — multi-page documents become a single PDF in the Vault — and keep working the claim wherever you are.

On supported iPhones, Athena reads documents with Apple Intelligence, on the device, instead of downloading a large AI model, so the app stays small. On iPhones without Apple Intelligence, you can still use the whole app and send captured documents to your own iPad or Mac for reading. iPad and Mac keep Athena's own downloadable on-device models.

An honest tip: heavy work like a big Strategy board or a long export is roomier on iPad or Mac. But nothing is missing on iPhone.

Already a subscriber? Nothing to buy twice.

Athena is one App Store app. If you already subscribe or bought lifetime access, it's recognised on iPhone automatically. On the free Veteran tier, the 20-document vault limit applies to each device's own vault.

Capture on iPhone, finish on iPad or Mac

Scan it now, finish it at the desk. Send documents from your iPhone to Athena on your own iPad or Mac in an encrypted, passphrase-protected package — for example by AirDrop. Your iPhone keeps every original until you confirm the package was imported on the other device.

This isn't sync, and that's deliberate. There's no iCloud and no server in the middle: you send the package, and you import it. It's free on every tier, including Veteran Free. How capture and handoff works →

Condition Summary & Deep Dive

Filter the Evidence Vault by a condition and Athena now states what the veteran's records show for it, right above the documents it draws on. Deep Dive expands that into a fuller account with a reference back to each source document, so every statement can be checked. It's written on the device, and it describes what the records say — it doesn't diagnose or decide a claim. Deep Dive depends on the device's on-device model capacity, so it isn't available on every device. More on the Evidence Vault →

On-device dictation

Long written statements are hard for a lot of veterans, and typing them on a phone is slow. You can now speak a claim statement or a Service Story event instead. Speech is transcribed entirely on the device and never leaves it. Athena writes down what you say — it still never writes the statement for you. More on the Statement Builder →

Also in 1.4

  • Text that follows your device's text size, including the largest accessibility sizes. Layouts rearrange so names, dates and buttons aren't cut off.
  • September 2026 SOP knowledge update: 12 updated Statements of Principles, covering Guillain-Barré syndrome, adrenal insufficiency, cerebral meningioma, chilblains, chronic multisymptom illness and immersion pulmonary oedema. The SOP Navigator now holds 761 instruments, 382 conditions and 10,607 factors.
  • Subscriptions: free-trial pricing only appears when you're eligible for it, and access continues through Apple's billing grace period if a renewal payment needs attention.
  • Plus bug fixes and stability improvements.
